Gollancz bewitched by Virdi’s first epic fantasy trilogy
Gollancz acquired RR Virdi’s first epic fantasy trilogy, launched with The first binding in August 2022.
Editor-in-chief Brendan Durkin bought the British and Commonwealth rights to three titles from Stevie Finegan of Zeno Agency on behalf of Joshua Bilmes of JABberwocky Agency.
“At RR Virdi The first binding, a storyteller and a dancer meet in a bar, then they change the world “, we can read in the synopsis.
Durkin commented: “As soon as I started reading Ronnie’s book, I knew I had an epic story in my hands. A fantasy about the power of storytelling – what the hell is it? there’s nothing to love? ‘ve ever met, and it has a captivating mystery running through its heart. I can’t wait to put it in the hands of readers. “
Virdi, who has previously self-published the Grave Report series, said: “The first binding began as a love letter to the stories themselves, to mythology, and to the way tales travel and twist over time and distance. How there are unifying myths and legends in the world, and how they were traded along the Silk Road with lesser riches such as gold and spices. This was my chance to show my love for the many stories I grew up with. After all, what is more important than a story? It was a pleasure working with Brendan Durkin. And I couldn’t think of any better house for this series than Gollancz, with its long history and tradition of big, epic fantasies of some of the best in the business. “
Finegan added: “From its very first line, The first binding is such a beautiful fantasy, with a very unique flavor, which is sure to enchant readers as it revel in the magic of storytelling. It was an absolute pleasure to jump on the successful train of Ronnie’s writing career and help this book find its perfect UK home. Brendan and Gollancz continue to be brilliant champions of the project and I can’t wait for this most epic epic fantasy to reach readers next year. “
