Professor Sue Black, June 14

SPONSORED POST Technology has changed the lives of countless people over the years, including many women from underserved communities who have been helped through education and up the career ladder with improved methods of communication, collaboration and dissemination of information that computer innovation has constantly made possible.

The second installment in the keynote series led by Lenovo, Nutanix and Intel® features Professor Sue Black.

Sue is Professor of Computing and Technology Evangelist in the Department of Computing at Durham University. Professor Black will talk about her own experience with technology, the internet and the cloud and how they have changed her life for the better and can change yours too.

Her story is truly inspiring. A single parent of three living in a city of London in her mid-twenties, Prof Black ended up in a women’s shelter before returning to school aged 26, ten years after leaving school without qualifications. She went on to earn a degree and then a doctorate in computer science, before becoming a renowned academic, lecturer and technology evangelist.

Her work includes developing and running the UK Women’s Equality Party and founding the British Computer Society Women’s Network in 1998, the country’s first online network for women in technology. Professor Black then helped set up Tech Mums, a social enterprise that empowers mums and their families through technology and was heavily involved in saving Bletchley Park, the historic WWII intelligence base camp in UK and home to Enigma code breakers.
