Seekonk Police arrest Mansfield man for alleged B&E, assault
Seekonk Police arrested a Mansfield man last week after he allegedly broke into a tow yard while armed with a machete-shaped knife and injured an officer with it.
On Tuesday, July 5, multiple units responded to a city tow yard at approximately 9:40 p.m. for an ongoing break and enter report. According to police, officers arrived to find a man, matching the description of the suspect, with a large machete-like knife strapped to his belt.
At first, according to police, the man complied with officers’ orders, but once they made contact with him they said he began to resist and physically fight the officers.
“During the altercation, one of the officers was injured by the suspect’s stab,” police said in a statement. The officer was transported to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
The suspect, Eric A. Wein, 28, of Mansfield was arrested for attempted break and enter, possession of a Bulgarian instrument, assault on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon, and resist arrest.
He was arraigned in Taunton District Court on July 6.
