Van Vleck’s annual scarecrow exhibition invites submissions

The Montclair Foundation and Van Vleck House & Gardens will be holding their second annual scarecrow exhibition in the gardens from October 7-24.

“From traditionally designed scarecrows to dark and spooky Halloween tributes, from reused and recycled creatures, to sewn and padded tributes, to characters inspired by history, mythology, cinema or literature, the only limit is your. imagination. ”according to a press release from Van Vleck House & Gardens on the event.

Families, individuals, Boy Scout troops, schools, nonprofits, businesses and organizations are invited to step into a tough and weather resistant scarecrow. Scarecrows should be homemade and suitable for families. The event is free and sponsored by PSE & G, PNC Bank and Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center. Registration must be completed before Friday, September 24.

Scarecrows must be dropped off on October 4 and 5 between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The scarecrows will be on display around the Van Vleck House & Gardens from October 7-24.

The winners in each category will win $ 500 to donate to the association of their choice. The community will be able to vote for their favorites in real time online, voting for their favorite in each category.
